Injector help please

Hello all,

1996 7.4 k2500 150,000 miles. 100% stock.

My truck is having long cranks to start when hot. I assume an injector is leaking down and causing the truck to flood out a little after it sits. It does start and will run fine afterwards.

Cold it starts perfect.

Question,

can a dirty injector cause this or do the weaken over time and just can't hold pressure when off?

do you have a recommendation for injectors if i need to buy new?

would over the counter cleaner help, I do have a local shop the cleans and flow test injectors for 16$ each. I am not sure what you really get when purchasing a reman injector?

I hate to drop 800 on OEM replacements.

Any and all advise is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Injector help please

The very first thing you should do is check the oil on the dipstick for gas smell. If an injector is leaking and been doing it for a while, there's a good chance it's got fuel in it and that's not good obviously.

The next thing to do is lift the fuel rails with the injectors attached so that the injector tips are out of the intake and pressurize the fuel system with KOEO.

Now look for dripping injectors. Cleaning and flow testing for $16 is a decent price. You might get them all cleaned or if your strapped for cash do a few now and a few in the future until you get them all done.

Don't forget that your plugs for those same bad injector cylinders will be bad also.

Your just lucky that you have a sequential port system and not the bastard "spider system". Soon to be replaced with a system like you have.

Don't forget the fuel pressure regulator. They are common to leak too. Look for fuel in the vacuum line.

Re: Injector help please

Just went through the same thing with a '98 I bought. Injectors AND fuel pressure regulator were leaking. Regulator is a beyotch to get out, take the fuel rail completely out and do the work on the bench. I got reman'd Bosch injectors for mine. They have 4 spray holes rather than 2 and fit perfectly. IIRC, I spent a bit over $100 for my injectors and they're working fine.

Where did you find the injectors for 100? I have seen anywhere from ~300-800.

Sleazebay. Reconditioned, which is about all you can really do to an injector. Bosch don't leak and provide a better atomization, new or correctly reconditioned. I couldn't afford new, got no complaints about these, they look new.

ls1 injector part number 12555894, drop in replacement. just did them on my 454. also do the regulator. no tuning needed. ebay for the injectors should be less than $100 per set.
