Question 1972 Frame with 94 body?

Hey everyone hope the holidays were good for ya!,

So to make a long story short I was hit in an intersection and didn't have full coverage so its restoration time. I have a 1994 Gmc sierra GT single cab stepside 4x4. and the frame is F***d. But I have a frame literally in the yard from a long box 72 chevy 4x4.

I like the idea of using the 72 frame with the 94 body because I want to do a straight axle conversion and the parts are all there for it, and Wanted a thicker more sturdy frame to box up (that and Its already sitting there, I dont have to take it from another truck in -25 weather).

I know to cut a longbox 67-72 frame its 8 inches off the back and 12 inches in the middle, I did one already. but my question is this:

Is the body on the 1994 longer than a traditional 67-72 short box? I know the frame is a foot wider on the 94 but making brackets wont be an issue for width. I just dont want my box hanging over the frame if I cut the traditional way.

sorry this is a long one but thanks for all who can offer up any knowledge.

and yes I put a different grill on it Lol.

Re: 1972 Frame with 94 body?

Is the frame bent where the lower control arm at the rear? That is a tough place to repair. If it is just the frame horns ahead of the cross member it is an easy fix. If bent at the rear I would look into splicing just the forward section of the older frame to your original frame.
You get the solid axle mounts but don't have to deal with body mounting, fuel systems ect. Cross measure the original frame from the forward body mounts to rear bed mounts to be sure it is still square and not diamond.

Re: 1972 Frame with 94 body?

Hey thanks for reply, I already chopped the frame, it was pretty much entirely twisted from the middle up, so we just scrapped it. Maybe could have used the back section but that would have only saved me the trouble with mounting the box. so Looks like ill figure out how to use the entire 72 frame, maybe I can write a book on how to Frankenstein a truck lol
