How to convert two speed wipers to delay/intermittent?

86 GMC C3500.

I found a cruise/turn stalk on eBay for cheap but didn't realize it had the delay switch option vs just the two speeds.

I've installed it and it works for the two speed setup I have in the truck but now I'm wondering what I would need to do to add the intermittent feature.

Has anyone done it? There is just one wire that goes from the new switch down the column, same as the other switch.

Re: How to convert two speed wipers to delay/intermittent?

The stalk just serves as an actuator handle for the turn signal & wiper switches which are located inside the column. The only switch & wiring on the stalk itself is for the cruise.

So converting to delay wipers will involve changing out the wiper switch in the column and adding the delay module. It plugs into the existing wiring and uses the existing motor.

Re: How to convert two speed wipers to delay/intermittent?

related input:
I bought a '73 GMC last week and drove it home 230 miles in a light rain
These things Need that Intermittent swithc
I ordered and recieved this off Amazon a few days ago
It looks to be well made and the switch feels Great, not some $1.00 Chinese POS
It came with 3 different siring diagrams that I only glanced at - as the ad says-you need to know how to find the Low Speed Wire.

Years and years ago, I guess when there was a market for an Add On Delay these things were $10, now 99 out of 100 vehicles already have them

I expect this thing to work Great
Amazon.com: STABOKAS Intermittent Wiper Delay... Amazon.com: STABOKAS Intermittent Wiper Delay...

Since you got yourself a delay stalk, you just need the delay module.

It's a fair amount of work to change out the switch. Here is a good write-up showing how to disassemble / re-assemble one of these columns --> http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...&topic=12525.0

That write-up shows how to gain access to the bolts that tend to loosen up and make the tilt columns sloppy. It goes deeper into the column than what you need for the wiper switch so you won't have to go through all the steps shown there.

I believe he still needs the delay switch along with the module. As I mentioned earlier, the stalk is just an actuator handle for the switch.

Re: How to convert two speed wipers to delay/intermittent?

Thanks guys. I think I'll just order the correct switch from LMC and give this to a neighbor that I know can use it.
