97 Tahoe Engine Mount Replacement

Some time ago I bought both engine mounts to be replaced. I took them to a friend of mine who has a lift and willing to help me replace them. He started before I got there and remove the long bolt that holds both halves together. He lifted the motor to see how to remove the half connected to the cross member.

To get to the backside of the bolts, you needed to remove the lower control arm. Then he referred to "The Book" which will tell you how many hours it takes to work to do a specific job on a car. Replacing motor mounts was listed as taking 5+ hours to do.

I passed on it at the time and returned the mounts. I didn't want to put my friend who was doing me a favor to help me with this.

What are the alternatives to this 5+ hour task? there must be an easier way..

Re: 97 Tahoe Engine Mount Replacement

My book says 3.8 hours to do both

I've never done a 2wd since they don't exist up here. But it says nothing about removing control arms. Maybe customize a wrench to reach in there and hold the nut

Re: 97 Tahoe Engine Mount Replacement

I tried using a long extension with a swivel socket and it will get on the nut, but its at almost a 90* angle and kept slipping off.
