Heater feed Help Needed

Hey everyone - I am learning to do a lot of the work myself on my truck and other cars but somethings I haven't done just yet - the heater being one. My 64 looks to have the deluxe heater box from what I have seen posted in the FAQ area but is currently not connected. I need some help figuring out where the feeder hoses connect to on the block since the engine is not original to the truck (chevy 350). If this has been discussed before sorry I did search.
Took a few pics for reference on what I mean
This picture shows the heater box to the left with the 2 ports circled - my question is where do I run hoses too? Am I correct with what I circled over on the engine?
Thanks for the help

Here is another angle

Thanks for any help as always

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

The hose closest to the box (should be 5/8ths) goes to the manifold
The hose closest to the fender (should be 3/4ths) goes to the water pump.

i'll post a pic in a minute

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

You may want to make sure the heater core is not leaking. That may be why it was not hooked up.

Good point I was actually thinking that last night. Is there an easy way to do that without hooking it up? Or is it something to replace while I am in there?

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

i picked up mine from O'reilly's for about 35 bucks. not terribly expensive, but any aftermarket cores will be aluminum. Bear that in mind.

use an MHT 94788.

Looks like you have the deluxe heater and not the recirculating. I may still have a good original copper heater core for the deluxe. I can look if you're unsure about your core.

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

I took my heater core to a rad. shop and had it cooked and pressure tested, came out it was ok, cost $25.00 bucks, and I am sure it is a lot better quality than what you can buy now days.

Just pulled mine out tonight - looked like original copper from what I can tell. Going to order a new one unless someone has one.

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

Measure your heater core once you have it out. There are 2 heater cores that look the same but are different lengths. The Deluxe heater will be the largest and the Economy heater is a little smaller.

That MHT I linked is the same size as the economy, but it puts out a good amount of heat. remember, it's aluminum

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

If you have a Deluxe heater and install an Economy heater core, you will have to block off part of the larger hole that is for the Deluxe heater core.

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

Here is the two cores in a deluxe heater. As the Capt' said, they both fit, but the economy core is much shorter and you'll need to block it off so you will actually get some heat.

Re: Heater feed Help Needed

You should be able to get one from your local auto parts store.....I did. There are some part numbers in the thread "All about heaters" The part numbers will vary between brands.
