1965 C10 Longbed Stepside slow build

Picked up this 65 that's been sitting in a field for some time. After selling my 62 I've been getting the itch to work on another rust bucket so I figured what the hell.

292 w/ 4 on the floor. Not sure when it last ran. Body is in pretty bad shape but nothing that can't be patched.

Can't seem to upload any pics atm but will as soon as I can.

Almost all of my builds have been restores so I'm going to play with this one a little. It has the 292 and a 4 speed (though I have an automatic that I might put on it) and I'm going to keep those but I'll be lowering it (C Notch, drop spindles, etc...) and putting in newer electronics. That's about as adventurous as I get

Sounds good! I like 292's. They are fun with a 4 barrel and headers. lol

Hey TJ, master of all inline 6s, do you know if this tranny will mount up alright? Looks like it's just a three speed out of a 67? I haven't been able to decide it yet. It was in the 65 parts truck I got.

Plate says CA, 67A 390

I don't have experience with the auto trannys. I'm pretty sure they are bolt on as long as you have a flex plate and torque converter and other needed gadgets. The inline 6 has a super similar bolt pattern to that of the V8 so anything that bolts to a V8 will more than likely fit a 6 banger.

Frame cleanup. Wire wheel/brushes from Harbor Freight and a pint of POR15 go a long way.

Re: 1965 C10 Longbed Stepside slow build

in your before brake picture the shorter shoe is towards the front.
in your after picture you have the short shoe towards the rear.

I just replaced all the drum brakes on this 65 a week ago.

Re: 1965 C10 Longbed Stepside slow build

Finally got the 292 back from the machine shop, taping it off so I can paint it once the heater starts working in the garage again.

Re: 1965 C10 Longbed Stepside slow build

Took the front support off, front end definitely had more rust than the back. I think I'll have to replace most if not all of the steering as well.
