I need a back and forth to work car that I can shove a couple of car seats into, and today we looked at a 95 Aurora with 82,000 miles for $5,900.

It seems to run and drive okay, but I'm a little leery about future parts costs, as well as wondering how hard the darn thing will be to work on. There's sure not a lot of elbow room under the hood since it's a front wheel drive V8

Does anyone here have any experience with these cars? Anything good or bad that I should be aware of?

are you sure its a v8. Last one I worked on had the quad 4 in it. Other than that, I don't have an opinion. If it does have a v8, and you are just looking for a comuter car, gas milage might suck.

That should be the 4.0 V-8 that is based on the Northstar engine in the Cadillacs. It has been a very reliable engine from what I have seen with my friends 95 Aurora. He got over 200,000 miles on it with out any problems. One thing you should think about is if it does break down, you can count on all the parts being very expensive.

Why don't you pick up a used 94-96 Caprice or 9C1 police car? They have 260hp LT1's, OD tranny's....they are big...roomy....get 18-22mpg on the highway and you can usually find them cheap.....there are a ton of parts for them....I bought mine for $3000.

Expensive to repair unless you can do the work yourself. My brother in law is a mechanic and he was telling me about working on the Aurora. They had one in with a bad pan gasket and had to pull th engine and transmission out of the car and separate them in order to change the gasket. He said the exhaust wraps in under the pan and you can't get it off unless you separate the engine from the transmission. An expensive labour bill for a minimal repair item.'

Find yourself a clean late model Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

Those first generation Auroras are nothing but a problem waiting to happen.

I have seen many of them at the auctions, but they had a lot of electrical issues.

The 4.0 is peppy when it runs right, but super expensive to fix.

People don't want them, as to why the price is so low.

I too agree a great daily driver is a 9c1 Caprice with the LT1.

They are a great car with one weak spot being the 4l60E.

Once a compentent tranny guy rebuilds them they are fine, but right out of the GM factory they are failure prone.

Mine has 170k miles and looks and runs like new.

Definitely one of the last great GM cars.

I routinely drove my 95 caprice, impala ss and now my 9c1 to 200k without tranny rebuilds or major repairs......
