Coming back from town last night, just humming along talking to my wife (with the low beams on) I saw multiple sets of legs in front of the oncoming car's headlights just in time to clench my hands on the wheel and see one scramble in front of me. I wasn't doing any less than 50 MPH when I hammered it with the right 1/3 of the 'Burb. No mechanical damage, no collateral damage, but I hate that I lost those original parts and have to repair it before I can do the resto. Only had liability insurance so it's on my dime.

But it hammered the deer good - knocked a full-grown doe 50 feet from the point of impact and didn't even bend the bumper brace or alter the 'Burb's course! Chalk up one for big chrome bumpers!

Yeah, at least it happened now and not after the resto! If it'd been 3 feet shy of where it was it'd have obliterated the core support, radiator, possibly the hood, etc. It could've come at a worse time, too. I can live with a primer grille panel and fender for a while.

At least you were okay. One day I got into a head on collision with a early Porsche.
I was driving my '72 Suburban.
The Porsche was totaled, and the driver went to the hospital. I drove home and told my wife "Hey, guess what just happened?"
Cost me a grill, a fender, and a bumper, but I was safe and sound.

That sucks. I had a near miss with a doe 2 summers back. I thought for sure I was gonna hit her. I had the benefit of an open road and somehow avoided contact.

Yep, nothing that can't be fixed pretty easily. I'd have been tempted to reuse the original headlight bezels and grille inserts, even though they had 325,000 miles of road wear on them, but now I guess it'll eventually sport shiny repros.
