1972 specs???
hi guys, several questions and things regarding my 72 gmc 1500
first off, is there any place on the web that you can download or get info that is in the owners manual, i don't have one and am having a hard time tracking one down. the things i need to know are -what is the standard behind the seat fuel tank capacity, gallons or litres is fine. -what would the ball park towing capacity be on the 1/2 ton with the 350 v8 and thm350 transmission? i have the 1500 super custom truck with leaf springs, and a steel step bumper in back-- - lastly, iam still in the market to find a fuel sender unit for the 72 any pointers as to where to find one, or if anyone has one they would like to sell, that would be great. -ok this is for sure the last one, i have been told that a tilt steering assembly from any later model chev/gm van would fit in the 67-72 trucks as they [the vans] didnt go to column ignitions until around 1980, any truth to this? and if so what if any modifying is there? |

The tank holds 21 gallons....
No clue on the towing capacity...it might say on the VIN plate in the door jamb though... You can get a new owner's manual from just about any of the vendors. Go to the main page (www.67-72chevytrucks.com) and scroll down the left side and you should be able to buy a reproduction. And the van tilt will work. I'm not sure of the details of the install, but from what i understand it is almost a complete bolt in. Someone else will know...

On the van tilt, the very end of the shaft (oposite sterring wheel) it's either a little longer or shorter. I think it may have been Rod who has a pic or each column. You might check with him. He would know the answer anyway.

The van column is a bit longer, so you have to colapse the intermidiate shaft a bit. Then the Neutral safety switch gets in the way, some ppl remove it, some make it fit one way or another. Other than that, it is a direact bolt in.
The towing capacity depends on your gear ratio. I'll asume you have the 3.07 gears since you didn't say what you had. (If stock, it'll be listed in the glove box if anything other than 3.07) With that asumption, the 350/1/2 ton/3.07 gear truck is rated at 6500 pounds. (don't use the step bumper onless it is in A-1 shape and you KNOW it is rated for the load) |

Update your profile with your location and it will help a lot. Folkes will respond that are in your area which will help to defray the shipping cost. Have fun
