Donor trucks prices?

I found a donor truck that I'd like to buy that has a good bed, and mostly good tailgate. I might need some of the metal around the windshield as well to cover some rust issues I have. What are people paying for their donor trucks? This one has a 350 that has a blown head gasket and a turbo 350 I'm assuming. . Are people getting good money for other parts or just scrapping what they don't need?

I never pay more than $500 for a parts truck, and that is if I see at least $400 worth of easy easy easy pay back in parts. The small tidbits add up over time but require time and marketing. Nickle and diming parts is not worth it, I look at the bigger easier sales and it usually works for me.

Not sure how scrap prices are in the rest of the free world right now, but here in the Tulsa area it's a joke. I'm actually holding scrap awaiting prices to come up. Last trip it was like $18 a ton.

$500 is enough for a parts truck. If the tailgate is nice they are worth a few bucks. I paid over $300 for a mint 76 tailgate. A good bed would fetch at least $500 around here.

Sounds a little pricy, as others have said I don't think id put more than 500 in a non running parts truck. Around here thats about what a decent non runner seems to be going for, or at least thats what people are asking.

Seems like just the tailgates go for 500 for a 74 gmc.

If it's 4x4 there are more parts that are worth a few bucks. $900 for a 4x4 with a good bed and bad engine could be about right.

A truly rust free truck is rare. Rust free trucks that are not too badly dented around here go for about $1,000 if they are running at all. Personally, I would look for a rust free truck to start with and use your rusty truck as the donor truck. You can find old utility trucks with good sheet metal and just replace the utility bed with a stock bed which you can get at the pick and pull for $250. Check CL in southwest cities to get an idea of truck value.

Some sentimental value in my truck as its been in family since 76 and it's a 74 that came with 454 so worth a little bit more. Otherwise I'd do that.

In my area it depends on the year. 1973-1975 trucks get more money because 1975 is the last year we don't have to smog. Then it depends on swb or lwb, 2wd or 4wd. They way I look at it is, what does your truck need that this truck has? Add those parts up. Does it cost more, less or the same? What's left of the donor truck that can be sold? $900 might be a fair price but could just as easy be way too high.
