installing rear motor mounts

i am in the process of installing these rear motor mounts http://www.classicparts.com/1954-72-.../#.VqQNsFmYLlg the issue i am having is i cant get the bigger U shaped mount to fit into the hole. i have tried putting a bolt through the mount and compressing it down. but unbolted it and it just seemed to cut into the mount. any tips?

The bigger piece goes between bell housing and cross member facing down. Small piece goes in the cross member bottom side . Bolt should go right in. Get both sides in before tightening in case you have to shift it a little.. Never seen those give a problem.
