I am installing my windows on my 79 c10. The regulator has a bad wheel on it. How do you pull that off and replace it? I have another regulator with the wheels but wrong shaft. So I want to pull a wheel off of that one and install on my original regulator. Thoughts?

I am looking how to remove and replace one of the wheels on my original regulator. I did not Ed anything on you post and I have watched those videos before and do not remember seeing anything about the wheel

Is it even possible to pull the old ones off without breaking them? Looks like LMC sells them, but has the rivet with them. I could cut the old rivet off and add a bolt. would this work, just no sense on spending money if I already have one.

The old rivets are pretty easy to drill out but you will sacrifice them and if you put in new ones they would need to be riveted in I think, as there may not be enough room in the track for a screw/bolt head

Or I could just drill out the handle shaft and swap that out. Put my origninal on the other regulator and go that route. Not so much that I have to pay for one, just that I don't want to wait for the shipping Will see which is easier

I went trough this not long ago. Do not buy the lil wheel from LMC, they aren't a good fit. Grind the back side off the rivet and knock it out with a punch. Do the same on the other regulator and then spot weld the good rivet wheel back on. Use some WD-40 to clean out the wheel and tracks on the door, then spray in some white lithium grease into the wheel and tracks.

Sounds like a plan. What about swaping out the crank shaft? Sounds like your way may be easier. Thanks

Even if you can manage to replace the rollers, there's good chance your shaft mechanism is worn out. For $21 + $7 shipping, I bought a pretty nice regulator from Rock Auto for my 1982 truck.

I did have the same problem as Greg -- my OE window crank wouldn't slide fully on the new shaft. I ended up spending $6 on a Dorman replacement at my local auto parts store.

The shaft mechanism seems tight. I am going with the welding plan as soon as I can convince my wife to let me back into the garage

That would be are indeed. The best check is to chuck up the regulator in a bench vise and turn the window crank. Everything should feel smooth, and you shouldn't be able to feel or hear the sprockets meshing. Any roughness or rumbling will be even worse under the window's weight.

I hope yours is fine, and I'm just trying to save you some time and effort.

I don't have a regulator here to look at but I'm wondering if that plastic wheel is going to warp or melt if you tack the rivet on the frame.

That wheel is far enough away. Quick tacks will do the trick. Got the ok for garage night so will let you know

Paid $1200; sold for $1500 a few years later. Just a hint at the appreciation that was coming. Retired as a factory automation products salesman. Worked part-time over the years for an engine builder and a classic car repair shop. Member here for 24 years! This is the very first car/truck Internet forum I joined.
