Re: 2 Evap Canisters, brackets, new filters and 1 set of hoses
Just an observation and apologize in advance if I've hijacked this thread. "loose" charcoal is NOT the indicator the charcoal is good. I know this because I've bought two of them and have the original from my truck. The charcoal didn't budge in the original, I opened it up to find the charcoal was like new, and that was with 100K on it. Climate/exposure may be a factor, but it wasn't on this (Nevada). No loss, the canister finish was poor due to battery acid.
I do not recommend shaking these. Other than the valves, which I can't comment on, what fails is the inner bottom element, which is like foam rubber. It's very thin and when it breaks you lose charcoal, which in turn is reason the charcoal can be shaken. In other words, by shaking it you're contributing to shredding the element. Note, the same element is at the inner top. That's not to say Rochester packed these tight all the time. I can only account for what I've seen, and my original was packed nicely and go figure still had a good inner bottom element. The two others I bought are beautiful and they both shake. Go figure both inner bottom elements have holes.
