Do you think CPP shipped me the wrong spindles..??

Do you guys think CPP might have shipped me the wrong spindles.?

My truck is a 1967 C-10 (6-lug)

You can see in this picture the outside measurements where the ball joints and A-arms would attach is roughly 8 and 1/2 inches (it is actually more like 8 inches because the ball joint surface is recessed).

The CPP spindles I ordered are their "Modular Drop Spindles" part# CP30106-2 for a 1963-70 although there is no part number on the casting.

You can see in the photo of the new spindle that the outside measurement is more like 9 inches.

And one more picture so you guys can see them both side to side.

Does anybody have any ideas.?

Is this normal for the new spindle to be 1/2" taller.?

I'm pretty sure my truck is original (but you never know).

I would put them on and see if they work, but make sure the ball joints are correct for your year. If not, it may be for the 73-87 ball joints. Sorry, my stuff in the newer stuff so I'm of no help

I checked the ball joints and they fit into the spindles and seem to be the right taper (I believe the only difference in ball joints is the taper).

My ball joints are part number2 #101-10037 and #101-10036 which are listed as correct for 1963-1970.

So it looks to me that the spindles are machined right for 1967 ball joints but they measure different than my factory ones.?

Should I proceed.?

I guess the A-arms would be an extra 1/2 apart, does that mean anything or change any alignment measurements.?

Re: Do you think CPP shipped me the wrong spindles..??

I just googled "tall spindles" and it seems like a taller spindle is a good idea for handling and tire wear, so maybe CPP adds a little bit on purpose.?

Re: Do you think CPP shipped me the wrong spindles..??

i'm no expert, but this would leave your upper a-arm sitting higher by 1/2", but the lower a-arm and spring wouldn't change. the spindle angle may change very slightly, but i assume an alignment would fix that. i would not sweat it if the ball joints all fit right. i would not think there would be any conflict with the front rim/tire and the upper a-arm, but that might be something to check.

Most likely it was done on purpose to help camber.

Re: Do you think CPP shipped me the wrong spindles..??

Thanks guys for the responses. I think I will try to phone CPP and see what they say.

There are quite a few stories of faulty machining, although these look machined close to the casting. It may be that post-1967 castings were a bit taller and they use the same castings for all years (and just machine for the different ball joints).

I'll post up what I find and, yes, will post pictures.

Did you ever find out the story with the spindles and the size difference?

I still haven't got them installed (been busy) but have one side done and they look ok.

Maybe they changed over the years and CPP sells one universal size for 67-72..??

Anyway I will find out once I get the alignment done but for now do not know.

Re: Do you think CPP shipped me the wrong spindles..??

Just was reading an article in Car Craft magazine about installing drop spindles onto a Camaro and they said the spindle manufacturer purposely made teh spindles taller to help with castor or camber (I can't remember which).
