Anyone ever made a power brake booster bracket out of aluminum?

Going to attempt this tomorrow at work. I am a machinist so i figured what the heck might as well try it. If it doesn't workout, for sure I'm buying one from captainfab. His makes more sense anyway, dollar and speed wise, but I like to make design and machine things. I'll let you know how it turns out

Yea that's not going to work. Mine will be a solid chunk of 6061-t6 and be machined into a very nice piece. I'll post pictures when complete

Couple pictures. Mine piece will be a fully enclosed unit. Won't be able to see any hardware. It will look like a solid aluminum block and that's its. Almost done with it, just need to make a few adjustments.

I am interested in this item also. I was wondering how good it is. Can anyone recommend a good power steering bracket? Captainfab is currently out of power steering brackets and I need to pick one up soon. I have heard about issues with the CPP brackets, etc so I was wondering if their is another quality steering bracket. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I would wait for him to get more. Best ones on the market. CPP and REZ hang the box with one mounting hole off the frame and requires you to drill out one of the threaded mounts on the box. Captianfab's does not require drilling the box and all the bolt are through the frame. As a bonus, his also comes with a very good template for mounting.

Just a thought...after having made this bracket that utilizes all the stock mounting points, I'm very happy with what I accomplished. That being said, if I had to do it again, I have my drawings saved and could make another in a few hours. Would I? Probably not. Captainfab's bracket is totally worth the money. I would buy one from him. I've had multiple people send me a PM about this thread, asking me to make them a bracket just like I made for myself. I'm not doing it. The reason I made this was because I have the ability to, and it makes no sense for me to spend the coin on something that I can spend a few hours designing and machining. I don't mean to detract from captainfabs bracket with what I made. I wouldn't mess with that bracket on ebay either. I would buy from the person who supports this site, captainfab.

I would love to wait until he gets more brackets in but my daily is out of commision right now and it will cost me less money to get this 66 on the road. Captains email to me stated that he did not know when he would have more brackets? It's just my luck that when I need one he he doesn't have any. If you are selling a product for whatever the reason, be it hobby, love, profit, I would think that after making these since 1993 that you would have an idea from your source as to when you would have more of them.

Make no mistake I am not trying to say anything negative about him or his product. On the contrary I was looking to getting one and giving him my money but I have to start looking for alternatives if he has no ideas when he will have any more. I figured what better place than to ask other members here that have tried other products that are available.

I removed the stock rod, cut it to specified length, tapped the ID to 3/8-24, screwed it all back together and adjusted to get the same pushrod length as the stock rod had going into the stock master cylinder. Pedal feels great.

Coming from the manufacturing industry, things happen. Sometimes material supply is low, machines can be down, workers absent. There is not always an immediate time table as to when more parts can be completed. Making brackets since 1993 has nothing to do with the process by which it happens today. I will tell you after making my bracket, it's a lot of work. Machining time alone was about 2 hours, due to the fact this was a prototype. Maybe you can do as I did and get a piece of paper, and make your own template. Measure the hole spread, and take that drawing to a machine shop and ask them to make one?

As someone who is just getting into machining and routing that piece looks like it was a bit complicated. Maybe not from a design perspective, but looks like you may have had to flip it a few times to mill all the sides, unless you have a $$$ machine that will turn it all for you.

SiggyFreud your correct. Mill both ends for parallelism. Do all the detail work like counterbores and bolt hole locations. Mill the profile. Turn part on end at 45 degree angle, 4 times for clearance for the bracket to booster bolts. If I had an indexer, much faster. I could machine this parts in about 25 minutes if I refined the process a bit

Yeah sounds like a pain. I'm still learning/refining my process to do 2-sided cutting since I don't have a good edge finder. Right now I'm zero'ing my work at dead center, and just using measurements to find that center. Then I cut/drill through into some spoil material at two locations to set an index and use a bit or dowel as my location tool. Very much a pain in the butt.

I definitely had some crazy idea that this would all be much easier to jump into than it is haha.

I stated that I did not know when those parts would be available because you asked this question after normal working hours and I could not check the status with my supplier. I am not one to give an answer just to give one and have it not be accurate. I did contact them first thing this morning, hence my email to you letting you know when I could ship the parts you wanted. Additionally I did order more plates in enough time but I was then informed that the laser would be down for 2 days for maintainence.

Since I have been doing this since 2009, I find it nearly impossible to predict sales of any of the 15+ items that I fabricate. I think that a couple days delay here and there is not too bad for an old man working 80 hrs a week every week.
