Paint for radiator panel - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

A quick question for the experts.

I am getting ready to paint a replacement panel that goes over the grille and radiator.

How were these painted originally? The one I will use obviously had some over spray from a repaint. The one I am replacing is in the same situation (plus a large dent

).

At any rate, I seem to remember that these were black from the factory. Is the panel all black or was part of it painted body color?

Assuming it was all black, can someone recommend a spray can that is close to or matches the factory black?

I tend to use the rustoleum spray paints Matte black or gloss black whichever you prefer

Krylon Satin black will give you a nice factory fresh look. This looks almost glossy, but it will cure out with a nice satin finish.

I used the John Deere Blitz Black on my engine compartment and liked it a lot. Not too glossy, but not a real flat look either. Seemed to be real close to what the original paint looked like.

Any idea where I might find that in a spray can?

I like the sheen of Blitz black a lot & have used it on several pieces.

You just might research the ongoing debate about being able to paint over Blitz with anything different in the future without striping it down.

I use the SEM product trim black in a spray . It has as close to the factory color as I have found . Also I have found that it holds its color pretty good . Lays down and dries pretty quick as well . I get mine at the local paint store or order it on line when I am placing a order . Some of the local parts store may have it . The part # is 39143 .

I,ve been using Mar-hyde satin bumper spray bombs on my stuff for years and it really holds up well and has a nice semi gloss satin look.
