Which one of these heater hose retainers came stock on your A/C truck?
Regarding the heater hose retainer that mounts to the RH inner fender, mine is like the one on the left (see link below) and mounts with a screw. Seems the one on the right is more common but my inner fender doesn't have a square hole for it. Apparently GM used both types for 67-72? My truck has A/C, may make a difference, thanks.

You should be able to tell from the hole; the one will have a round hole in the inner fender, the other needs a square hole to latch into.

More than anything else, I guess I was just looking for confirmation both styles with installed on these trucks. Mine takes a screw. I think mine was on backwards, which may be why it's twisted. The retainer was facing the RH (truck side). I think they're supposed face the LH (truck side). I suspect it's intended for the heater core to radiator hose only.

Say Mike, do you happen to know if that retainer is intended for the core to radiator hose line only?

Re: Which one of these heater hose retainers came stock on your A/C truck?
Tony, that is the only water hose in the retainer. However there are a couple other things inside the retainer. There's a green wire from the A/C compressor connector -- it's only exposed for a few inches, then disappears inside a woven sheath which goes through the retainer and runs down the back of the inner fender. There's also a small vacuum line from the water valve which lays alongside the aforementioned wire.

Re: Which one of these heater hose retainers came stock on your A/C truck?
There may have been some variation of this on the 70-72s with the water valve bolted to the inner fender, but for what it's worth...
On my 69 with 350 and A/C (which of course uses a water valve not fastened to the inner fender), the retainer without the screw shown on the right in the link in post 1 was secured to the original inner fender on the firewall side of the valve. If I recall correctly, it was in a ROUND hole. Unfortunately, I cannot double check to confirm the hole shape since I'm separated from the truck by 2000 miles. This retainer held both heater hoses. The vacuum hose was secured to one of the heater hoses with a harness strap (no zip ties back then). I don't recall if the A/C compressor wire in the woven fabric loom was included in the retainer or strapped to a heater hose along with the vacuum hose. The other retainer in the link in post 1 was bolted to the base of the front compressor bracket and contained the heater hose from the water pump and the negative battery cable which was attached to the front exhaust manifold bolt (actually stud). Man did I jack my retainer up, long long ago when much more "carefree".. Didn't see it when mounted. I had two hoses running through it and the retainer was backwards. Lucky I didn't strip the hole for it.

Here's a picture that shows both retainers, heater and vacuum hoses and compressor wire as described in my post above. The bolt on retainer can be seen just behind and below the compressor pulley.

FWIW here’s that on my 72 AC Th350, 350 sb Blazer and I believe it to be correct.
The RH OEM fenders have dimples where the screws would affix the diverter valve if so equipped. Maybe early year inner fenders lacked the stamped dimples - I’d be curious to know.

Re: Which one of these heater hose retainers came stock on your A/C truck?
I think there's two different retainers, one plugs into the skirt and the other takes a screw.
Appears there were two different placements using a screw. One like Deadhead's example, which is how I found my 72. The other like Already Gone's and 3757chevy's, which is how I found my 71. What do you mean by dimples Deadhead, they under the water valve?

Re: Which one of these heater hose retainers came stock on your A/C truck?
The dimples are where the screws go for the hot water valve. Say you have a pickup without AC - the Rh inner fender will have the dimples. I imagine the dimples are there to direct the guys on the assembly line as to correct valve placement.

I see dimples on both RH fenders, though no screw holes. Not to say what was once a dimple is now a hole. Interesting. Just to satisfy my curiosity I ordered an NOS RH skirt, due any day now. JK, but I did order one last week. I'll let you know what I find. My painter showed up today. He's bringing another two guys on the 10th to start slamming the body together, fit moldings too. Only to blast it apart again for paint

Re: Which one of these heater hose retainers came stock on your A/C truck?
I just looked at the RH inner fender on my K20. There is an additional dimple with three total in an "L" distribution with two roughly parallel to the long axis of the outer fender and another that's slightly more inferior to the more anterior of the other two. I think when used as intended screw holes would replace dimples: the upper two are perfectly spaced to accommodate the heater valve. Would like to see other examples of who has what on OEM inner fenders.
