350 ID casting/stamping issues

Hello
I am trying to ID my engine so getting the right parts is easier. Most of the time I just guess when ordering engine stuff and get lucky or have frustrations.

This is what the block numbers are:
Casting...3970014
Date K20/76
Stampings: 16S14199
T1216CMJ
Heads: 993's
Several sites say one thing, others conflict, especially the CMJ suffix.

Much thanks in advance, I will attempt the oil pan gasket change next weekend and want to get the right 1 pic Felpro gasket kit.

Tom

Your casting number here.
http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

Your suffix here.
http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-2.php

All that shows a 1974 350.

Where did you get the build date from?

Tom, CMJ suffix code was used in 1976 for a 350ci, 145hp, th350 trans, 2bbl, in a Impala. Your partial vin shows a Chevy built in 1976 at St. louis. In 1976 St. Louis did build Impalas.

St Louis was also building Corvettes but their VIN stamp would have been S4XXXXXX

Re: 350 ID casting/stamping issues

Thanks gentlemen. That solves the mystery. Now I can order the oil pan kit and be sure I have what I need to complete that job. This is my DD, so I am looking to do this in less than a day.
