hey guys, ive been fighting a bad brake squeel in the front driver side drum. there is no noticable issue while driving, but when slowing down, there is a loud high pitched squeel. its only front the driver front. the brake shoes have been replaced on both sides. the passenger side was rebuilt the same way as the driver, with no issues. shoes are new, drums are new. is this an issue having to do with the shoe adjustment (either too tight or loose?) while adjusting the shoes, both sides felt like they were in the sweetr spot (slight drag). but when touching the drums after driving a short way, i know not the best way to test, the passenger side is hotter than the driver side. ive adjusted and readjusted several times but the squeel is still there only when slowing down. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. also, the hardware is probably the original, but nothing looks out of place. bad spring tention? adjustment not holding its place? really at a loss at this point...

You may want to replace the flexible hoses to the wheel cylinders....I had kinda the same thing happen...They seem to rust inside the hose where the metal wraps around at the hold down clamp and restrict the flow (both directions) of the fluid...They either won't release pressure or put the same as the other side unless they are both new..Dave

They dont rust inside the rubber swells up inside.

I think what you're experiencing is simply rust dust building up within the drum. The next time it happens and you have access to an air hose, try blowing out the drum through the adjustment slot, or around the diameter on the edge of the backing plate, then drive it again and see if the squeal has diminished. In the "old" days the shoes were an asbestos compound that absorbed the dust, the newer none asbestos linings are not so forgiving.

You might also have a bad new drum. Pull it off and take it back where you got it. Have them put it on a drum turnning machine and see if its out of round.
