Brake drum Q
I am working on front drum brakes for someone and I am stumped with this problem. They had replaced the shoes but did not turn the drums. When I went to adjust the brakes, the drum would turn clockwise freely (reverse) but not forward at all or very hard. I backed the shoes all the way off, and it still did it. If I loosen the bearings a little (too loose) and pull the drum out a hair it will turn. I replaced the inner bearing and race but that didn't help, to my surprise. Could it be that the drum should be turned and will that take care of the problem?

try putting the other drum on, see if its the same,,,,,,,,,sounds to easy,,,you said you backed the brakes all the way off and it still did it,,,your drum would have to be REALLY warped for that not to affect it ,,,,,will the axle spin freely in both directions with the drum off?

The drum is on the front spindle. I am going to turn both of them tomorrow to see what happens. Hopefully that will solve the problem. This has really got me stumped. If turning them doesn't work, I don't know what to do. The brake shoes and hardware look good and where they need to be. It is mind boggling why it turns freely one way but none the other. It's possible that the drum is warped that bad because I took the adjuster out and the drum turned fine. What do you think?

Thanks for your help,
Yes that is how the adjuster is installed, and all the hardware is installed right. I have you thinking don't I? I know I've been trying to figure this one out for hours.

Yeah, maybe the drums need to be turned a lot or maybe replaced. I'll figure out someday.
