Steering stabilizer
Did all of the K models come with steering stabilizers? I have a 72 K10 and don't have a stabilizer, and I dont see a place to mount one. Searching for 72 K10 though, I see places selling them

Re: Steering stabilizer
No idea how many were equipped with one. I can only say for sure "not all". My '72 K20 did not have one. Years ago I installed an aftermarket stabilizer. Can't recall for sure why I removed it but it was off for several years, then a couple years ago I re-installed it. Drives pretty much the same with or without.

Re: Steering stabilizer
Cool, thanks for that info. I really had no idea what the deal was with them.

Re: Steering stabilizer
Unless you have huge tires they are not needed,And really they can mask steering problems sometimes.

Re: Steering stabilizer
a '73 K10 I had years ago came stock with one, when it went bad my truck shimmied real bad, replaced it and everything was fine, if your truck drives fine, you probably don't need one

Re: Steering stabilizer
Unfortunately, I have never driven my truck yet. When I finally got it home over a year ago, I immediately started dismantling. Now that it's about 90% done, I'm hopeful I'll be driving it by spring. I was planning on bigger tires though, 33 x 12.5 x 15, so maybe I better look into adding a stabilizer or aren't those really considered large?

Re: Steering stabilizer
I wouldn't be concerned -- run a stabilizer if you want, or skip it. It shouldn't matter. I'm running 8-ply rated (load range D) 33/12.50-16.5s on 9.5" wide wheels. Like I posted above, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Re: Steering stabilizer
Mine GMC came equipped with one. When I bought the truck the existing stabilizer was worn out so I replaced it, made no difference at all. The truck is stock height suspension with 33" tires, for what it's worth.

Re: Steering stabilizer
Good info. I'll just drive it for a while and see if I even need it. Thanks

Re: Steering stabilizer
I agree with those above. if you dont need one they serve no purpose.if you need one then its really masking some other problem.
my 68 k20 did not get one |

Re: Steering stabilizer
It is just covering up a greater issue. You have a worn out part in your steering/suspension. It's ok as a temporary band aid, but it's not the solution.
