Driveshaft ?'s

I've been contemplating a longbed to shortbed conversion, but have been put off by driveshaft purchase. I have a few questions: Does anyone have the length of their shortbed's driveshaft with a 3 speed saginaw trans? And does anyone know if a 88-98 driveshaft will work, as in the u-joints? I can shorten the driveshaft, i just need a cheap 1 piece to start with

2wd or 4wd?

EDIT: Sorry I saw you have a saginaw transmission.

Re: Driveshaft ?'s

Hi There,
I'm not positive, but I believe a lot of the 88-98 driveshafts are made of aluminum. I have "lengthened" a driveshaft by 3" to use a 6" tail trans instead of a 9" in an 81 Sierra Classic. You could probably grab a one piece shaft from a late 70's early 80's auto pickup , and shorten to what you need. I believe the saginaw has a slip in yoke like the TH 350s. (but I could be wrong)

Re: Driveshaft ?'s

Just take your long driveshaft to a driveshaft shop and have them shorten it. Then you have a cut to fit and balanced shaft. It's affordable and takes out the guess work.

Re: Driveshaft ?'s

I have the drive shaft out of my 86 swb that had the 3sd Saginaw. I'll measure it in a little bit.

Re: Driveshaft ?'s

Sorry I didn't get to it last night, but mine measures 58 3/8" center to center of the u-joints.
