Came across this sad mess today in a local yard. Hopefully the driver was able to walk away. Other than the front, everything else looks pretty solid. I'll be headed back in the next few days to pull some parts.

That was a hard hit. Hope he was wearing a seat belt. I can see the old single pot master cylinder on it. Hope it wasn't a brake issue. I wrecked a 64 when it lost a line at the tee in the back. Sick feeling when the pedal gos to the floor. I always recommend folks do the brake upgrade asap on these trucks. Lots of good stuff on that one to help save another.

by the looks of that steering wheel he may not have ben wearing his seatbelt and it obviously didn't have collapsible steering shaft

its allways a good idea to make shore that the E brake is in good working condition
in case your brakes should fail.

Are you able to check if that truck has a 305 in it? Looks like it from here, but I'm wondering if it could Possibly be a 351. Man, Salem is a few hours north of me. lol

A few years ago, I lost the left rear wheel cylinder on my '54 Buick while coming to a stop. It covered the inside of the drum with brake fluid, so when I stood on the ebrake, one of the two rear drums was well-lubricated.

A '54 Buick Special will not stop on one rear brake drum.

I imagine our trucks won't either.

The truck in the OP took a hit hard enough to shove the steering box back two inches--that's why steering column is spaced out like that.

A lap belt is shown in the pic, but that doesn't keep your chest out of the steering column. Makes me REALLY want to install a collapsible link in mine.

A few years back a local guy here also lost his brakes. The single pot master cylinder.
Splitting the lines was the first upgrade I did to both my trucks.

I would be interested in the Heater controls, if all the buttons are intact. It looks good in the pic.

Just to be clear, this isn't a "For Sale" thread, I'm just offering to look at parts to save someone from wasting a trip.

While climbing around this thing today I found the build sheet behind the seat. Dana 44 3.54 Power Lok (posi), SM420 trans, spare tire mount, wrap-around bumper all intact on the truck. The bumper looks especially straight and clean.

I'm not affiliated with this yard, but I get a fair amount from them. They seem to get one of our trucks in every 3 or 4 months. They're easy to deal with, I've never ended up on the losing side after haggling.

Dang! A factory 3.54 posi is fairly rare. Wish I was closer darn it. Might have to call a buddy of mine and let him know about that.
