Re: Safety First!
Yup it is important as I learned the hard way and wrecked one. I did not hit near as hard as that one. First thing I do to a truck is brakes and new three point belts.

Re: Safety First!
What else?
So, if you just picked up an old 60-66 fixer upper. If splitting the brake lines is first on your list, what do you guys think 2nd then 3rd etc? Steering shaft?

Re: Safety First!
Inspection of the brake system is critical. That involves taking the drums off, checking shoe thickness, inspection of the wheel cylinders, checking all lines and hoses for excess rust or cracks in rubber parts.
An indication of a bad master cylinder is a bloom of rust behind it on the firewall. All this is doubly important on a 50+ year old vehicle.

Re: Safety First!
So, if you just brought home an old 60-66 and it runs and drives, and you're not doing a build, but instead you plan on driving it.....
For the punch list in order would be: 1. Quote:

Re: Safety First!
Bookmarking this for my boy's '64.
So what can we do about upgrading to a collapsible steering shaft or column with a 3 on the tree?

Re: Safety First!
There's nothing you can do about the Darwin theory. Oh you can try, but it still applies from generation to generation.
