T56 in a C10... with a Bench seat?
Gentlemen,
Good Morning. So, part of the reason for Woody's progress stalling is my inability to raise enough funds for a suitable manual gearbox to fit behind the LM7 install. After visiting Grizz earlier this week I was sitiing in my garage making Brumming noises whilst looking at the new Engine on its stand and thought that there has to be another way of getting a suitable box. I keep coming back to the T56 option but want to retain my bench seat. From the measurements I have seen online the stick will come up under the bench. Not good. My question is then, who has an LSX with a T56 in their truck with a bench seat? I was watching an old youtube video of 'are you faster than a redneck' where a C10 was being campaigned with this set up and it looked from the video that it had a bench. Any leads on this or am I mistaken? I have been pondering the notion of making a remote stick that puts the shifter at the correct position which is then connected to the T56 shifter but am unsure if this will work. I suppose I am talking out loud really but would appreciate any feedback, also an indicator on which t56 to look for and an idea of the current market value. Many thanks, P. |

Brumming noises!!
Is that like vroom-vroom noises? LOL!! Keep your bench and put a notch in it where the shifter comes thru. The chevy factory did that on the mid sixties Nova. Or you could contact these guys. They made a shifter that was a top mount on a muncie. http://www.garagemotorsports.com/ |

Look up T56 mid mount shifter, there is a way to mount a shifter on the inspection plate hole. You do have to open up the transmission to do the install however. And it's not cheap.

I have seen that but it sort of negates the reason to go T56 - I am near the price for a Legend 5 speed once I factor this in. Since my initial post I have seen a number of people that have used a remote shifter, usually to move the stick towards them when using a Viper box, so it is doable. Bruum Brumm vs Vroom Vroom... I am sure there is many an hours debate over a pint of beer or 3 as to which is correct! Look forward to the first round! P. |

I was thinking the same thing. I've seen the reverse done when trying to clear the dash using an NP435 in 66-77 Broncos. Figured you could do the same under the bench seat. I only knew it by manufacturers name (gearbanger). Remote shifter makes sense now. |

These are food for thought. Not something I am endorsing necessarily.

The link shown above by jcramsey is the best option for sure. Here are more ideas for thought.

Re: T56 in a C10... with a Bench seat?
It seems like I have seen a factory car with some sort of relocation bar. Maybe in a die cast. Looks like there are a few options though. Here are a couple of pics I found as well.

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has used one of the external shifter relocation pieces?
If rather not disassemble the entire transmission for the other setup, if possible. |

Bad pic but....this is a TKO600 with tremec midshifter. Really easy to install the midshifter.

Re: T56 in a C10... with a Bench seat?
Thanks man.
I'd really like to run a T56, though worst case I have a freshly built 4L70E that was meant for my Trailblazer SS. (probably not going to install it in the TBSS) |
