72 C10 play in shifter

Hey everyone. I have a 72 c10 4 speed manual floor shift that has a ton of play in the shifter. I have searched to the end of the internet and shops around me are not much help either. I'm sure its just a grommet but not sure the size or type. Truck is in the body shop having the front clip replaced or I would take photos of exactly the type I have. Any advise is appreciated!

Re: 72 C10 play in shifter

Remove the shifter by pressing down on the coller with channel lock pliers & turning it CCW about 30 degrees. There will probably be a peg on the bottom shifter that wobbles in the housing. Weld this peg to the housing. That will take the play out of it.

Ok thanks Wrenchbender, once I get the truck back I will look into it. Sounds easy enough. Thanks for the info!
