Maxi fuses instead of fusible links ?

My 80 C10 has copper stranded wire replacing the fusible links at the starter and I'm thinking of addng some maxi fuses to provide some short protection . Has anyone here done this ? Thoughts ?

It's definitely a good idea to put some protection (fuse, fusible link, etc) back in place.

I prefer to stay with fusible links for this type of application though. Especially down near the starter where there isn't a whole lot of room to add a fuse holder.

Can a blown fusible link be replaced with a MAXI™ fuse?
While "MAXI" fuses have replaced most factory-installed fusible links in late model vehicles, they do not have the same performance characteristics as fusible links and should not be used to replace them unless specifically authorized by a vehicle factory service bulletin. Fusible links continue to be used in most starting circuit applications.

This is just my 2 cents but I have been replacing fusible links with maxi fuses for a while.
I also do not take the power from the starter anymore when I wire something. I have been running the power from the battery to a junction block with 8 gauge wire or bigger depending on what I am wiring. The only thing going down to the starter is a cable and the solenoid wire. I think it is safer and a better system. If you read a Ron Francis catalog they have electrical tips in it that also state that a fusible link is a very poor choice for protection.

I'm with Ray on this. Don't change from fusible links to Maxi fuses.

On my 1976 I relocated the Crank and cab-power wire from the starter to a remote starter contactor next to the RH battery. I still used a fusible link to connect the cab-power wire on a power distribution stud to the battery stud on the contactor.

The starter only has one 2ga cable from the contactor to the starter along the oil pan and rail. I have a 14ga jumper wire between the BAT and S terminals on the starter. As soon as there's Juice in the 2ga cable the starter spins.

I did use two Bosch glow plug fuses and holders from 1978-1995 VW diesels for the glow plugs... one for each bank.
