5.7 vortec 96 in 69

How many of you have put 96-97 vortec in 69 c-10 with lmc suburban tank under bed and what did you do for fuel pump?

Well I didn't run a LMC surburban tank under the bed but I have a 98 Vortec in a 70 C10 running one of these guys for a fuel pump.

Cool. That's cheap. Is it loud? Any problems with pressure?

It's a lot quieter than to the blue Holley pump I was using before. Pressures is pretty low around 5 psi. It doesn't flood the carb.

I should have been clearer. I'm using the factory fuel injection from the 96. I need 55-60 lbs.

I have no done that but I put a TPI in a SWB '72. I used an '85 S10 Blazer tank and swapped from TBI pump to a TPI pump. Don't see why you couldn't use a late '90s 4.3 Vortec S10 Blazer tank and have a factory in-tank pump. I used the complete lines and added fittings to the front, so it may be worth getting them out of the donor if possible.

In the picture is my tank. It's never had gas in it so I can modify it easily as needed, if needed. The 96 donor fuel tank is not the correct ohm sender for the gauge, not the correct height, and the 96 tank has steel lines going into a "baffle" built in the tank to avoid it losing prime when the fuel level shifts. I'm wondering if a later model fuel pump assembly like a 98 and up would work because they don't use a baffle but have a self contained resviour and are spring loaded to adjust height and sits on the bottom of the tank . I'd have to leave the 90 ohm sender supplied with this tank to control the gauge and cut another hole for the pump. If that later model pump is the same pressure as the 96.

Looks like '65-97 is the same resistance on the sending unit. Are you sure your donor tank is a '96?

Yes. I have the whole donor. Bought it brand new in 96. My stepson totaled it. Only 60k miles on truck. That's great if it's correct. I was told, it was different.

If you can move the float by hand, put an ohm meter on the leads. Move the float to both extremes and measure the resistance. Then you will know.

Cool! I'd still need to do something about the "baffle" inside the tank.

MARKDTN, you are correct, it's a 90 ohm sender in both, the 69 and the 96. I'm going to modify the blazer tank to accept the 96 sender and pump. I'll buy a new pump assembly before I finalize everything. I cut the top section where the pump goes out of the 96 and I'll weld it in the blazer tank, it has never had any fuel in it. I can install the baffle as well, making everything right. Correct fuel pressure f or vortec, correct ohm sender. I started on it today.

Originally when I bought the lmc relocation tank , I was planning on putting a carbourated engine in the truck and fuel injection wasn't a thought. However when the vortec fell in my lap, I decided to use it.
I've already built my filler into the marker light so I hate to scrap all of that work.

I sat the bed back on last night to be sure I wont have any clearance issues after I cut the tank and weld the section from the 96 in it and it will all clear. I'll try to put the baffle inside the tank and weld that panel in the top of the tank this weekend. I'll post pics. I think its going to work out fine.
