Headlight bulbs keep burning out

I've got a 1990 Suburban with those small quad headlights and the bulbs burn out in very short order. The headlights are Hella European exports and use 55/60W H4 bulbs. So far, it has always been the drivers side low beam that burns out and it only burns out in the summer months when it's hot.

I'm thinking that it may be a combination of too much heat in such a small headlight enclosure and the shock from the 3/4 ton 4x4 suspension that's burning these bulbs out prematurely. The headlights are relayed so there is full juice getting to them.

Is there a bulb out there that will last longer under these circumstances? HID? LED?

Re: Headlight bulbs keep burning out

Does anyone here any experience with running a Cree LED bulb in a headlight housing that takes a H4 bulb? These bulbs have a much longer life expectancy compared to halogen. They also put out more light lumens but the question if they will put the light in the correct place.

Check your grounds and make sure the headlight don't have a short also.
