K20 power steering swap

I need to get the old manual steering off my 1972 K20 and convert to power. I have been striking out to find a 71-72 setup. Can I use a setup (pump, brackets, pulleys, box) off a 73-88 K20 p/u or suburban? Will a box for a K10 work?

Re: K20 power steering swap

The steering box itself from 71-87 4X4 (1/2 ton or 3/4 ton) will bolt on to your frame, the thing to keep in mind is in 1980 GM switched the hose fittings in the steering box from an "inverted flare" to an "O-ring".
As far as all of the rest fitting (pulleys, brackets etc) will depend on what setup your truck currently has, if you have the factory "short" water pump setup (alternator on drivers side) you will need to find the power steering pump, hoses, pulleys and brackets off of 68-72 trucks, these parts do not matter if off of a 2WD or 4X4.
If your truck has the "long" water pump setup (alternator up top towards the passenger side) then you can use everything off of the 73- early 80's. (GM switched to serpentine some time in the early to mid 80's).

Re: K20 power steering swap

Thank you, that shed a lot of light on things. I just put a new water pump on so I guess I need to at least find pulleys and brackets for a 68-72 power steering pump.
