Temperature Gauge?

Just wanted to ask before I dive into this. My temp gauge has not been working for a couple of months. All of a sudden, when I started the truck yesterday, it went crazy....kept on going back and forth, and then stops for a little while and then starts again. Does anyone have an idea of what may be wrong w/it? Is there something specific I need to replace, or should I just get a new temp gauge? Thanks

Joe

temp

Sounds like the wire is shorting out. Check the routing of the wire along the valve cover and block. While it's covered (stock) with a heat sleave, it usually deteriorates over time. More often than not the wire is quite brittle and broken in a few places. If it's an original wire, replace the wire from where it comes out of the firewall gutter harness to the sending unit and see if this solves your problem before you start looking for a new gauge or sending unit.

Probably the wire like said before. Look on your manifold on the drivers side for a melted green wire.
It is grounding out every once ina awhile (like on speed bumps) and evertime it grounds, the guage will peg out.

Checked it yesterday and it was fine, was getting power and everything. Today I am going to replace the temp sensor on the block to see if that is it.....
Thanks
Joe

Ground the green wire and see if it good to the H and stays there. Or just disconnect it from the temp sensor and see if continues.
