Repro Tach and HEI
I upgraded my 67 C10 to an MSD Streetfire Ignition. After this I bought an Instrument Cluster with a reproduction 8k tach from Classic Parts of America. At the time they stated that their Tachs will work with HEI as long as there is a Tach filter in line. Well i finally got around to installing it all these years later and my Tach went up in smoke (literally). Come to find out, they changed their stance and said their Tachs will not work with HEI.
So I've been looking around at different Sites like LMC and Brothers. Brothers responded to me and said their repro tach will work. Does anyone run a similar setup to me and have a Brothers Repro Tach working with their HEI? Do you have the Tach filter? Anyone have one from LMC? Thanks in Advance!

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
I ran an LMC tach that specifically said "The sky will fall if used near HEI, cats and dogs living together, the whole tragedy" but it worked anyway.
Then one day a month later it hurled. I borrowed a tach from a friend that did work. Funny thing is I doubt Brothers has their own unique source for tachs, and LMC is adamant about no HEI. I'm running one of their repros now with a Petronix III and it seems OK.

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
I figure the tachs all come from the same source. I was hoping by chance maybe not. LMC responded to me and said their tachs work with HEI. I asked about a refund/return if it doesn't work and haven't heard back yet. I'm hesitant to shell out $100 just to have it not work and them not refund me.

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
My repro dash cluster from Brother's Trucks works with my factory HEI. It has only been driven less than a thousand miles though. So far so good.

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
I'm wondering about the same thing as well. I searched some threads on here and I found a place called the filling station in Lebanon Oregon. I was actually just gonna call them Friday and talk to them about this! Their prices seem pretty reasonable. If you get a hold of them let me know what you think.

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
LMC and Brothers say their tachs work with HEI. But they only sell the 5k individually. They only sell the 8k in a kit. I need an 8k because thats the complete cluster i bought. Little aggravated to say the least

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
I am following along.
I purchased an 8k tach kit from ece and that also went up in smoke hooked to hei. Ece said it is supposed to be good for hei. The good thing is Ece stood behind the tach and warrantied it for me. The bad is I was to afraid to hook it up it again. But damn does that decked out rebuilt cluster look good hanging on my garage wall.

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
My 8k repro tach works, but it is hard to read due to the lens stenciled numbers cluttering up the inner dial. Too much stuff cluttering up the real estate! If mine dies I will definitely replace with a vintage chrome bucket Sun or similar, so I can read it. The 5k repro may be easier to see, but won't keep up with a cammed engine.

Re: Repro Tach and HEI
I have an HEI and a repro tach. I did use a tach filter. Not sure where the tach came from, the guy who restored the cluster sourced it. So far its been in there 2 years and about 8000 miles with no issues.
