Re: jkmhb's '58 Apache Fleetside build thread

Thanks! It going to have a Mustang II IFS (Heidts crossmember) with Rack and Pinion steering and disc brakes, 4 link rear with disc brakes. Summit tilt steering column. Changing the Turbo 400 to a 700R4. Adding Air Conditioning (haven't selected the system yet). Adding an aftermarket 1969 Mustang gas tank with integral fuel pump and adding a Holley EFI Stealth Ram fuel injection system. Adding a serpentine belt system. Also making a lot of electrical system upgrades and fixing the instrument cluster.

Re: jkmhb's '58 Apache Fleetside build thread

This weekend - finished welding in crossmember, upper spring perches, and front frame c-notches. Excuse the booger welds, I got good penetration on the welds, but I need to clean it up.

Just the steering wheel I'm looking at! Is that a 14" or 15 1/2"? Maybe a better pic in the cab?

Thanks, Jim

Re: jkmhb's '58 Apache Fleetside build thread

Man, Im not trying to pick at anyone, or start anything. But please have that re welded by someone. If the welds look like that there is no way it penetrated the base metal. I don't want to see you get hurt. Beautiful truck by the way.

A good crossthread is better than Loctite any day.

I'm not a Pro welder by any means, just don't want that thing to let loose on you on the highway. Here's a quick pic of the crossmember I welded into my 51 GMC.

Thanks. Could I ask you to send another pic of it in relationship to the dash (a little farther away), so I can see the size?
