i just did mine last week, used my dremel tool. just covered the pad with a couple of layers of masking tape

I used an air saw (harbor freight tool) sort if air powered jigsaw. Dremel might be a wiser move though, that air saw didn't make a very straight cut....got close to screwing up my dash, but caught it before that happened.

I done mine also with a new pad and freshly painted dash. I used a small cutoff wheel and a dremel with an even smaller wheel for the sides. Just take your time and cover everything up. Grinding sparks will ruin your glass!!!

That's no joke. Welding too. Cover your glass with welding paper or welding blankets or each little spark will make a divot.

ditto on the sparks, only takes one spark to burn it to the ground.....and have a fire extinguisher handy!
