New bench seat ideas

The seat in my 73 K10 cheyenne has suffered the wrath of a million farts and it's time for a new bench. Any recommendations on what year GM/Chevy I can pull from. I figure I can go into the 80s, but are there any newer truck models that will have a bench that matches up. Wouldn't mind some new age comfort for those long hauls.

Thanks

Rip seat. A million farts is a hell of a total.

Re: New bench seat ideas

I just ordered foam and a seat cover, getting ready to redo mine ..

The foam and batting was 127 bucks, custom fabric cover 168 .. considerably less than the 550 I was quoted.

Re: New bench seat ideas

Front bench seats from 73-91 Suburban will bolt in if you swap the bench sliders. I had 89 Suburban captain chairs in mine, only required a slight mod to the tracks to bolt in.

Re: New bench seat ideas

I would shop around at local upholstery shops and see if they can rebuild and recover your seat for $250 or so. If not, then you will likely have to fabricate new frames for other seats. I plan to put Chrysler Sebring convertible seats in my 83 because I want integrated seat belts and the late model Chevy truck seats with integrated belts sit up too high to work.

Re: New bench seat ideas

I love the Square body bench seats, only seats where you can comfortable slide your girl right up next to ya when you are driving. But then again I am kind of old fashioned.

Except that they act as a massive spring board over bumps.

Can you post a pic of your bench seat? I would just take the seat to an upholstrey shop and have them recover it. They can also replace the foam if it needs it. Then that way your not having to search around for a seat and then worry about getting it to fit.

I had a 90's seat in my truck (which is an 86) when I bought it and it was the wrong color & wrong model year. I wanted to have a period correct seat, so I found one at at a salvage yard and had it re-upholstered with the correct colors just like it would have been if I had bought the truck new.

The Maroon seat is the 90's seat. The blue seat is the one I got from the salvage yard (it is period correct for my truck) and had it re-uphoulstered to the charcoal.

I'm the same way. I'm looking for a a bench, with a center console that can fold down, when it's just me or me and a buddy.

Re: New bench seat ideas

Two benefits of the Sebring convertible seats are integral seat belts instead of the clunky stock seat belts we have (which don't seem to work very well, IMHO), and a decent headrest. I am 6'2" and am used to a head rest and adjustable backrest.
