HELP - crazy intermittent start issue 1998

Hey guys! I need your help!!!!

Just picked up a 1998 Cheyenne WT single cab long bed from my girlfriend's son. (305 engine)

It has a crazy intermittent starting issue.
sometimes fires right up and runs like a champ...

other times just cranks and doesn't even sound like its trying...
weird thing is that when you let off the key it will stumble a couple of times VERY slowly!

It has a brand new fuel pump and filter.
I tried to check fuel pressure but the rented gauge didn't work.
(starter fluid in the throttle body doesn't help!)

It DOES have spark.

It also has a brand new crank position sensor.

Once started it runs perfect until you turn the key off....
No trouble codes according to my reader.

SUGGESTIONS?????
