Vent window question.

I just realize something while surfing E-bay. My vent window frames are rusted on the outside frame surfaces. I was under the impression that they were painted black. But after looking at a few for sale on E-bay the complete vent window frame is cover in rubber. Correct ?

So to fix my vent windows, reseal them or complete assembly's ?

Thanks Ken

Re: Vent window question.

All parts are available to rebuild your assemblies. Frames can be sandblasted, or sanded down and repainted.

Re: Vent window question.

Yep, was checking my options last night. Seams a 1986 uses the one piece vent seal/molding. Should I buy a new lever assembly for each vent also ?
Any input on who vent seal is better that the rest ? I have read the post of the difficulties installing and then being able to use the vent window after the install.
So any tricks to the job will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ken

Re: Vent window question.

Be careful on identifying the vent seal for your application. This link will help in identifying what you have.

I would suggest replacing the handle.

Re: Vent window question.

I am going through the vent window seal experience with my 86. I ordered and received one piece (that's what the book said) then discovered mine were two piece. Then I couldn't find a local set of vent windows that were one piece. LMC is currently out of 2 piece for 8-10 weeks, another supplier wanted $68 shipping to Canada and I finally ordered a set from Brothers where the price and shipping were very good. Check yours, watch the video and then you will know what to look for. Wished I had seen the video before I ordered. Darwin

Re: Vent window question.

I have an 86 and it to was a 2 piece. I was able to identify that by watching the video. I would personally highly recommend sending the vent windows to Precision and letting them restore them. The turn around time is about 2 weeks and they look brand new.

Here's the fellow you need to talk to at Precision:

Re: Vent window question.

^ X2... May cost a tad bit more to have Precision do them, but WELL worth it.

Re: Vent window question.

After reinstalling them in the truck. Since then I found NOS OEM vent handles, which I will be installing shortly.

I can't remember what the cost was for a total restoration for each window. It's going to be based on what all you have done. That means all new seals, glass, and hardware, and whether you your glass frame needs replace because of rust.

My cost was $110 for both windows, but I had already purchased the seals and the springs, thinking I was going to do this myself. My glass, sash, frame and handles were reused so that kept the cost down. Basically in my case, what I paid for was labor.

Maybe someone that has had the total restoration of their vents Windows can shed a better light on cost. Or better yet, call the number in the above post #9, Greg can give you an exact estimate on cost based on what you need done.
