Wish me LUCK !

Up date : SCORED (2) 427 BIG BLOCK TRI POWER Well... Last week my bil asked me to asked me to get a couple 13 hp Honda pressure washers running for him that had been sitting in a large container storage box for a few years on his property .After some minor carb cleaning and general maintenance they fired right up and run great ,When I took them back over to his storage container I moved some boxes around and found ...2 complete late 60's Big Block tri power intakes and carbs with factory air cleaners ! I'm going over to help him with a few little projects today and with any luck and some $$ I'll be bringing them home with me later today . When I mentioned them to him last week he had forgot they were even in there .Now if I can just pry them away from him without breaking the bank. Anyone have an Idea what stock tri power setups are going for today ?

I was looking at some on ebay. You can go on there and check the prices. Just according to what they are for.

Re: Wish me LUCK !

I think it will depend on the casting numbers for value. And I'm assuming they'll need a rebuild. I'm honestly thinking 500 bucks each in my mind by the time you probably spend 5-600 refurbing them. Looks like they go for 2500 completely restored according to ebay

I've seen people asking 1000-1500 bucks for something like that.

Re: Wish me LUCK !

Well I didn't get the intake set ups I went chasing today ,The brother in law price was a little steep . BUT I did end up with 2 GM aluminum BIG BLOCK TRI POWER INTAKES and 1 came with carbs and they were FREE ! My bil came thru with a couple good intakes needing clean up and a few 427 long blocks needing rebuild from what he can remember .Score one for the GRUMPY OLD MAN !

I feel like a little kid at Christmas !

Great Score! Crane's Corvette's out of San Diego,Ca. Has some of these for sale, and they do Restorations as well. Everyone I have seen bring $1800 plus......even more with the correct fuel lines and linkages, not to mention the air cleaners.....I'd like to find a 1969 Z28 302 Cross Ram intake/carbs/air cleaner myself, even if it's just bragging rights, that's money in the bank right there!
Congrats Grumpy!

Re: Wish me LUCK !

Well...I really didn't need another project my todo list is pages long already but I had to try to chase these down I was surprised he had 2 nice complete set ups but I was pretty bummed when the price was as much as a couple decent trucks ,Then when he pulled these out I knew I was taking them home ,There's just something about a opening the hood to see a fully STOCK Corvette BIG BLOCK 427 with TRI POWER backed by a 4 speed Muncie and a 3.73 posi and now I have all the basic parts .It will just reek old school power ! Now to chase all the correct linkages and factory parts to put it all together correctly .I can already feel the $ flowing out of my wallet .I'm already thinking about building a sleeper with a base '67 short bed and making it a 4 speed on the column

Re: Wish me LUCK !

A few years back I took a Factory five 427 Shelby Cobra That I rebuilt for the owner after a crash and used it for a display at the Chevy Corvette expo! We had a lot of "fun" that weekend ! Good thing I took a Fuelie '64 corvette also .

Re: Wish me LUCK !

Back in the late 70s a friend of mine had a 64 C-10. He put a tri-power 427 in it with a Muncie 4 speed.

Man, what a beast. Once those drum brakes got hot stopping it was exciting to say the least.

And no seat belts...... young, dumb and bullet proof...

Re: Wish me LUCK !

I've already had more than a couple offers to buy them ! The intake with carbs is date coded to 10/5/67 and from what I gather pretty desirable by the Vette guys , some of the offers have been interesting but I really want to build a correct 427 tri power big block just for the cool factor I have to hide them from Mrs Grumpy before she trys to put them on ebay .I already need another building to hide stuff from her

Grumpy, I kind of lost track of what you acquired here, but I have a 68 Corvette short block. It's been so long since I looked at it I can't remember what the stamp or date code is.

Re: Wish me LUCK !

Well , I picked up (3) 427 long blocks today and it looks like I'm going to end up with the 2 nice TRI POWER intakes and carbs That I couldn't buy a few days ago ( amazing what a full Black Angus steer in the freezer is worth )

Let me know I now have the parts to put it back together if it's a 427 ?

Re: Wish me LUCK !

Sounds like you need an intake and carb or carbs more than another block.

Congratulations on the find. Now for a car to put one in. It never ends does it?

A bank called a couple years ago and wanted a bid on a ratted out 68 Corvette drag car.
The car was junk but it had an LS6 454 in it. I think I bid $800 and my buddy got it for $1,000. He still has the engine but it would have to be sleeved.

Re: Wish me LUCK !

I have a couple '67 short bed builders That will end up with these engines ,I'm in the middle of building 3 now My 6cyl farm truck ,my 496 Muncie restomod and a secret surprise shop truck for my bil . I'm beginning to think that someone has let the cat out of the "secret bag" Everytime I go to see him he'll stop whatever he's doing and want to talk about what I'm working on and if I've decided on colors yet ? I've wanted to dig thru that storage container for years now and still haven't made it to the back and just lately he's been letting go of some stuff cheap ? I found this scoop off his car and I thought it was sad to see where it ended up after being in so many races and magazines . Gordy had a stroke a few years back and shortly after rolled his Razor in the desert around Phoenix and was hurt bad . They moved back to Tn to be closer to family .

That's a 7/8 size Chevelle that was built in Scott county Tn from what I was told and Gordy told me last week that Ausley's is looking for the car to restore and display . I've traced it to SC where it was for sale a few years ago .

Re: Wish me LUCK !

Now your talking. 427 tri power in a short bed.

To expose how smart I am, I had the engine out of my Longhorn DD and never occurred to me to put a 427 or 454 in it. The 402 is fine but the cam doesn't work at low RPM..

is Gordy the bil?

Yes , Gordy is my brother in law , He has a large box car trailer still full of race parts and tools next to his house and I haven't had the chance to get in there yet He did dyno tuning and carb work with Richard Petty ,Junior Jackson etc , He told me the other day that he had a box van that Edelbrock gave him to work the pits on fuel systems for Nascar and NHRA back in the day . He's been around the block a few times as far as racing is considered . He's still sharp as a tack , Sadly his body has paid the price . I plan on taking him to a bunch of the local races this year just so he can get out and after you've been to the top the local dirt track/drag strip brings back good memories .

The 496 I have needs around 900 cfm to run correctly I'm thinking of dropping one of these TRI POWER 1050 +cfm set ups on it just to see what it will dyno at ? What do you think ? Sounds like fun to me !

I've already ordered some 427 emblems to slap on the front lower fender of my truck.

Re: Wish me LUCK !

I remember Gordy's Chevelle. I have had one or two Chevelle's all my adult life and belonged to NCOA and ACES.

I hope Gordy gets to go to some races this summer. The local races are the best. You can interact with the racers.

A 427 is cool in anything and although I've had big blocks all my life, I have never had a 427 in anything.

Actually the 427 I mentioned is still at the rebuilders. The shop built it for a guy and he never picked it up.
