For the stepside guys........
I know where I can get a super straight '70 model LWB stepside for really cheap. (no motor). I plan on cutting my frame to mount a short bed. I know I can use the fenders and front/rear end panels, but was wondering if I could cut the bedsides down to make a short bed? What are the dimensions of a short-step bed? I'm mainly wanting the measurements from where the fender mounts on the bedside to the front end panel and the rear end panel (tailgate). Before I go cutting up the bed though, would it be worth keeping the truck together? It's a 3/4 ton, 4 wheel drive, LWB stepside. I've only seen the truck once, and didn't look inside (was more worried about the sheetmetal). Thanks for any tips..............

Keep the LWB step as it is. They did not make very many of them.
Short steps are available, seems more so than good clean fleet sides. JMO, Don |

I agree: you want a Short Step? Buy one. Don't chop a good Long Step. At the least, sell the long bed sides and buy some short ones.
Best would be to keep the truck intact. As you say, there aren't many of them out there.

Don't chop it man! SWB are too easy to find around here to chop a fairly rare long step (even though they are the ugliest model of these trucks.)

No it wouldn't. They made them like that all the time, most were fleet side though.
The fugly one would be the 9 foot one ton step side trucks. They made the 8 foot step into the 70's and maybe even 80's. |
