Which Transmission Crossmember?

Again putting a lq4 and 4l80E out of a 2006 Silverado into my 71 c10.

I'm using the 73+ c20 engine frame stands and using the dirty dingo sliders from the same year 73+.

Is there a aftermarket trans cross member that works without must fabrication? Which trans mount are you guys using and with which crossmember?

I was looking at the ECE trans crossmember as it is $89 and comes powedercoated. They say it works with a 4l80E.

Thanks!

Re: Which Transmission Crossmember?

Do you not have a stock one? They work with just drilling a couple of holes.

I do have one. Maybe I can save some money and use it.

Wonder if I will need a high hump trans tunnel with my setup.

Re: Which Transmission Crossmember?

Ya the stock trans xmember is basically a piece of channel steel with angle-iron flanges on the end. You can just slide it to wherever the trans rests naturally with the engine on its mounts, and drill some new holes. I'd suggest getting some good nylocks or use threadlocker (the trans mount is buffering the movement of the trans , but there is still a good amount of vibration being transmitted down).

Re: Which Transmission Crossmember?

Shouldn't need a high hump, I had a 6.0/4l80e in my blue 72 without one and it cleared fine.

Which transmission mount do you use? One for a 4l80 from the year truck I got the motor from? Not sure what works best. 71 trans mount?

Since i'm using clamshell mounts also, you guys recommend poly inserts in my factory metal clamshell?

The ECE is what I used. I did have to make a 5/8" spacer to raise the rear of the transmission. I have a 6L80E but it is the same mounting as the 4L80E
This is a picture I had at work hope it helps

Re: Which Transmission Crossmember?

Should I use the poly motor mount inserts? I have that the stock replacement ones break.

Also rubber or poly trans mount?

I am wondering the same thing. I am getting ready to install a 6.0 LY6/4L80E and I have the ECE crossmember. Wondering what poly mount to get. Wasn't sure if this is the one I need.

Re: Which Transmission Crossmember?

I'm doing the same swap, I used the CPP trans member, it works fine. Holley has one with exhaust lumps if you're feeling rich. Says 73-87, but I'd wager it'd work fine.

Heres the link
