'72 CST Woodgrain Glovebox Door Decal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys,

I just picked up a nice '72 CST and am in the process of bringing the dash back to an original look. It has wood grain door panel's, and wood grain decal on the ashtray, and I found a picture that showed the glove box once had a wood grain decal as well. Did it come with the glove box decal from the factory or should it have a had a painted wood grain plate like some of the Super Cheyenne trucks? I ordered the new decals from classicparts for the instrument cluster plate, just not sure if I should include the glove box door.

Welcome and looks like a nice Blazer. My CST has the wood panel inserts on the doors and no other wood trim on the dash. we need more pics.

Only the doors would have woodgrain. The ash trays never had wood grain from the factory and only the Cheyenne supers or sierra grande pickups had woodgrain glovebox doors.

To jump on this bandwagon my '72 Cheyenne has wood grain door panels and glove box door but the instrument bezel is black. Is that normal? It certainly doesn't look correct.

If I were to purchase a wood grain bezel, and other parts, (engine harness, interior paint and dye, cigarette lighter, etc.) who generally supplies the best quality stuff? I don't really care about price, just quality. I keep seeing Classic Parts mentioned in various threads. Are they a good bet?

My former life was restoring '68 Mustang California Specials, hence the GTCS title, but I got so tired of buying cheap crap parts from China (NPD) I gave up on them after 40 years. Do our truck part suppliers have the same issues?

Just saw your post from 3/15. Great looking Blazer! We've just about finished the dash/instrument cluster/AC vent rework. I went back all black, no wood grain decals, it's looking sweet! I'll post pics once it's done, hopefully this weekend. Are there many 1st Gen Blazer guys on the board in our area?

There are a few in the area..........not sure how many? I do know there aren't many 1st gen Blazers...........This one I got has a decent body/paint but it needs a lot of little stuff. I have a '71 that's just too far gone to fix so I'm putting all the effort into this one.....where in Maryville are you?

Just in the past 4-5 weeks I have ordered a lot of parts from Classicparts (enough where they ask me my shirt size..lol) and some parts from LMC and Classic industries. My experience has been about the same with all of them. All three use the same venders for many of the parts (American Auto wire, Counter parts, Trim parts, etc.), mostly everything has been pretty good quality with the exception of a few parts, mislabeled, or just poor fitment. I have sent a few things back and started hunting OEM stuff at the Truck Farm in Kodak, TN and on eBay. My small job of removing some hokey power windows and a viper alarm installed in the late 80's has turned into a complete re-wire, dash harness, engine harness, headlight harness, as well as all new vent tubing under the dash, new AC box, AC controls, AC cables, instrument cluster restoration, and it goes on....and on...and on. I don't think you're going to go wrong with any of the big online suppliers. Reproduction is reproduction though, you never know what you're going to get until you're installing it. Nice thing is everyone has been good with returns.

I'm in town, Sandy Springs area. I had a '72 Medium Red 25 years ago, drove as my daily driver for 5 years. Hit a utility pole, and sold it for parts. I have always wanted another. The new one's in pretty good shape, but it needs a lot of little things too. Trying to slow down , it's adding up quick!

Just trying to do one thing at a time and keep it on the road......I have an LS1/4L60E/241C that I had gotten for the other one.........but I may lean toward staying with a Gen I and maybe a 700R4.....

working on building the axles now, I have a rebuilt tilt column, and Classic Industries gauge unit to go in it....
a member here does interior builds.........GrumpyOldMan...........really does some great work and has a place in Kingston
gonna get him to hook me up with an interior makeover.......
