Coker Classic Bias Ply Radial?

Just wondering......have any of you guys bought and installed these tires on your trucks? If you did, how did you like them? Were there any issues with "out of roundness"?

I did some web research and some guys have experienced out of round issues or have had to add a LOT of balance weights. I like the look of bias ply, but the ride and stability of a radial.

Your opinions?

Bias ply tires have always had some issues with roundness especially the nylon belted. I remember parking a car after a long trip, driving the next morning and them thumping down the road till they warmed up again.

I bought a set of 16" Coker Classic radial tires. I haven't installed them yet to speak to the ride or balancing but I can speak to their service. One of the tires had an imperfection and they had no hesitation in replacing it! Excellent customer service!!

Great! Did they pay to ship the bad tire back to them?

All they wanted was the serial number part of the tire...cheap to ship that. The trouble was cutting it out! WOW what a tough SOB to cut!!!
They paid the freight on the replacement tire.

My friend just replaced a set of radials with a set of Coker bias ply wide whites on his 50 Ford coupe and he likes them. He said when he first drove it after mounting them he thought he had added power steering it steered so easy.

I think if you had said "bias look" wide white radials the guys have a better chance of exactly which tires you are thinking about.

They have the sidewall and tread pattern that more closely resembles a Firestone piecrust bias wide white . I'm thinking seriously about putting a set on the 48.

As far as wear or being round I haven't seen much on these particular tires yet. I still can't understand why Coker has so much trouble with out of round tires on other models of tires though. Back in the early 70's when I was dealing with tire vibration issues daily we had more trouble with OEM tires than tires we sold and I used to think part of that problem was how they cinched the cars down on rail cars and convoy trucks to haul them and that some of them had sat on lots somewhere for several months without ever moving.

Before I ever mounted a tire on one of my rims I'd make sure all of the rims I planned to use were round and didn't have lateral runout. I've seen a lot of vibrations that were caused by bad wheels over the years. Also everyone has a different tolerance level for vibrations and what may be totally unacceptable for one person isn't noticeable to another. I've rebalanced a lot of tires that were only a half ounce out of balance in the years I was working in dealerships because we had some real picky customers but balanced tires on some other cars that were in for alignment that showed being out of balance on the test drive where the owner didn't mention a vibration but noticed the difference after I had balanced the tires after doing the alignment.

He got the true bias ply tires that look like Firestones from the fifties, not the bias look radials. He still loves them.
