Swapping in hydraulic clutch pedals....what do I use for nuetral safety?

first of all my truck is an '88 V30 and was a factory auto truck. I am swapping in a set of period correct pedals and need some advice on setting up the neutral safety switch.

My original auto column has a switch at bottom of the column. It has 2, 2 wire plugs going to it. I'm guessing one is a neutral safety switch and a 2nd plug for the reverse lights. My first question is........is this really a neutral safety switch because the later model columns had an ignition switch interlock I thought not allowing the ignition switch rotate forward to start in gear. If that is true could this plug be intended for something else?

If it is in fact a neutral safety switch I had planned on using the wires and routing them to my clutch pedal switch to act as a neutral safety switch. Does anyone see a problem with this?

One should be Neutral safety and one backup lamps.

Well I will get that wired up as soon as I find the 4 pin pigtail that plugs into the clutch/nuetral safety switch, lol

Honestly I ran my 1985 without the clutch interlock and never missed it.

Since its a TBI truck and my daughter is 5 I would hate to have her hit the key and take off. I personally could live without it but I feel more comfortable knowing its there so an accident doesn't happen

Two pins on the clutch switch are needed if you have cruise control.

I am by no means a guru on the electrical systems on these trucks but I think you will find the neutral safety switch on yours only turns on the reverse lights and tells the computer that the transmission is in neutral. The neutral safety is a mechanical lock out built into the steering column. My non-computer '86 doesn't even have a wire on that terminal. My hydraulic clutch had the wires cut and wire nutted together, probably because the safety switch failed. I found a wire harness in a wrecking yard and swapped the cut wires for non cut ones and bought a new safety switch.

On a manual transmission it is referred to as a clutch pedal position switch. There is a connector with purple and yellow wires, if I remember correctly, that connects to the column on an automatic shift. To use it with a standard transmission, there is a pig-tail that runs from the wiring for the automatic and connects to the clutch pedal position switch mounted on the pedal assembly.
