3/4 ton 4X4 Hub Dials

Been a while since I posted about the progress on the Blue 3/4 ton 4X4 hub dials so I thought I would catch everyone up.... UPDATE: There is no new news... We have tried to communicate with Spicer but they have a problem it would seem issuing a license to use their name. They said that they were considering starting to produce them again.
Well after all this time they still haven't made up their minds!! So we are now considering having them copied. This is not a big issue other than we will not be able to use the Spicer name in the hub dial itself. We would just use an arrow that points to either Free or Lock on the dial housing.

That brings up a couple issues though. 1 - Is this a product that you would buy even though it's not 100% correct? and 2 - We need a yellow and red hub dial for color matching. I already have the Blue. Give me your thoughts. I would either like to move forward with this or stick a knife in it and not worry about it any longer. I already have a bunch of product that sits on my shelf not being purchased and can't afford more. WES

Re: 3/4 ton 4X4 Hub Dials

could you make them w/o the Spicer sticker, like the red '70s are? Who, knows, maybe some sticker bootlegger might end up making stickers that we konw nothing about. What stickers?
Or, how about slightly changing them to Spicier? For what N.O.S. costs maybe just call them Salty

I'm more in the market for 1/2 ton hub dials, but for what its worth if you provided the correct colors for each of the year models I'd still buy something like that. I'll never be doing a "Concours Resto" in my lifetime anyways.

Re: 3/4 ton 4X4 Hub Dials

I run Selectros right now, and have about any other aftermarket made because, I will admit, I have a hub fetish. I run those because that fetish is only part of my era accessories fetish, which is just a part of my 67-72 fetish, which is part of my early GM truck fetish, which is part of...

Oh yeah, back to my factory correct parts fetish, which hubs are part of. I also am running aftermarket to save the N.O.S. (part of my N.O.S. fetish) one for the day they'll make a difference on my truck. That day may never come, but I have a parts hoard fetish, so wouldn't bother me a bit. I'd like to buy a set of those alloy versions being make to satisfy the first mentioned fetish.

My point is (I really do have one), these OEM reproductions Wes is working on are for those who want factory correct for their restorations. Personally, I think Wes should work on making the chrome rings since Spicer would rather road block reproduction of a part they have no interest in producing (obviously), than have someone else spend their money on putting a product out that will give free advertising and awareness to the age-old company that makes parts no one sees... the unsung heros of the drivetrain world (they invented the u-joint). Corporate can be retarded in the eyes of the regular guy with common sense. But what do we know? If you don''t have as much money as them, you must not know what you are talking about

I bought a set from GMCGrim. They came yesterday and they are beautiful.I would like to have the chrome ring reproduced too. But when Wes gets his available I would want a pair of those as well.

Im with you Tim, not so much on the fettish's but the outer rings in good shape are getting really hard to find. Given the price of nos I would be happy with a set of blue dials that didn't have the spicer, that's just me tho.

I also have a set of NOS Chrome Hub Housings that we would be working on also. However that's a whole different set of problems... WES

Re: 3/4 ton 4X4 Hub Dials

I would be in for a set of repro dials and housings. I don't think it would matter if they said Spicer or not. I would buy them without it on there. Someone can always make there own stickers

Re: 3/4 ton 4X4 Hub Dials

Wes, I have been asked many times to put Spicer on the dials that I sell but knowing that there would be licensing or copyright issues I declined to entertain that thought. I have to say my dials are not 100% correct but that has not stopped the masses from buying them.
You can check them out in the 4x4 forum. I soon will be making dials for the 1/2 ton trucks only in anodized blue. The place where my aluminum is anodized cannot match the yellow or red color so blue it is .

I would be interested in blue 3/4 ton dials and chrome housings if they come available, even without Spicer.

Re: 3/4 ton 4X4 Hub Dials

Wes - if the dials could be made less the Spicer-labeled insert I see no big deal. If done correctly we can swap in original "Spicer" inserts that can harvested from damaged OEM dials. Good luck. Pete
