Optional overload spring
Just curious.....
My LWB '72 has the optional overload spring/brackets on both sides. I will soon be doing a 3/4 drop, and was wondering if I need to remove all of this, or just warm up the springs and bend them upwards away from the stops the same distance as stock, after the lowering? I will not be towing with the truck, nor ever hauling anything of heavy weight... Thanks.... |

I removed mine and sold them as soon as I listed them.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |

I'm doing the same drop now on my C10 and I'm removing them. Even with no drop they made noise on small bumps from contact.
Gives me an excuse to restore my C20 for heavy loads..... |

I think there were (2) types of overload springs depending on whether the truck came with a leaf spring or coil spring rear end.
Lock doc shows some excellent pics of the coil spring overloads. The leaf spring overloads are different in that there might be a forward and trailing 'rub' bracket riveted to the frame that the overload leaf would ride up against under heavy load. That said, I picked up a pair of the cantilever type for my 1/2 ton coil spring truck....I'm addin' em, rather than subtracting them at this point. Now, with a 3/4 drop or a 2/3 drop would they rub? does anyone have theirs mounted and could they measure up the 'free' gap? Interested. Coley
