Fan options

Looking for electric fan options for my 62. 350 SB, 4 speed, 3 row champion aluminum radiator. New or pick n pull.

Go with the Lincoln Mark VIII or the Mercury Cougar XR-7 fan. They really do the job well.

i went to so cal. got the Champion 4 core. then a shroud and pusher fan. works so good the fan hardly ever comes on.

Is there a particular reason why you want to go electric?

Here's my take on fans: A good 7 blade clutch fan and a stock shroud will vastly outperform an electric fan. I live in the desert of Southern California at 3000ft of altitude where it gets over 100 degrees in the summer for weeks on end, and all I use are clutch fans and have never had overheating issues, even on small block 400s.

I see a lot of guys shun the factory stuff and go electric because they have an engine that runs hot and the first place they look at is the fan. Usually that's not the culprit! It's TIMING. An engine with too little initial timing will run hot because the burn is happening early and causing the engine to heat soak. Keep your initial timing between 12-16 degrees, with total of 34-36 degrees. You will be amazed at cool the engine runs.

Just food for thought. If you're going electric because you're crunched for space, I totally understand. There are some times when a clutch fan and a shroud just aren't an option because the engine is so close to the radiator.

I'm not set on electric and after reading on all the wiring ,switches,relays ,etc, I will most likely go with the clutch fan..

I think it's your best option if you want simplicity and functionality. The factory stuff works really well.

if you dont care about loseing a lil bit of HP go with a fan and clutch ... if you want to squeeze out every drop of HP go with a electric fan .. but dont use the fan from champion they are junk i know i used it and it would not cool had to use a different fan

I used a Spal fan. So-Cal said it was the best brand on the market for electric. its loud turns 2,370 rpm but rarely turns on.

Are your lower radiator saddle mounts on the upper or lower position? Photos look like they are in the lower position but I can't tell for sure.

I also went with the Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan. MY 64 has Vintage air and when idling in 114+ deg heat with the A/C on my temp would slowly climb. If I revved the motor the temp would drop. I picked up the Mark VIII on 1/2 off day at Pick N Pull and a Volvo relay again from Pick N Pull but I also had to get a temperature switch from Summit to turn the fan. The most expensive part was the Derrels switch from Summit I think it was $36.00 The Lincoln fans fit like they were made for our trucks. Heck even my radiator overflow/windshield washer setup came from Pick N Pull on 1/2 off day. I'm CHEAP & Lazy!

Flex-a-lite Black Magic #188 3300cfm no issues on my 4x4 and fits perfectly on 1962 radiator. Las Vegas heat and all. You get what you pay for. I opted for quality of a new fan.

that fan is a 2 speed fan .. how do you get it to works on both speeds as it was intended to ? please include part #s and places you bought the stuff to make it work at ... thanks Happy Truckin

Actually the Mark VIII fan I bought was only a single speed fan. It did have 3 wires running to it but there was no middle terminal at the fan motor. From what I've read Lincoln had both 2 & 1 speed fans depending on what year Lincoln you got the fan from. Before removing my fan I tested it with my 18V DeWalt cordless drill battery using a couple of cheep Harbor Freight jumper leads. I'll get back to you on the Volvo relay and the Derell switch I used and the part numbers. I've got all this stuff written down in my note book and now of course I can't find it. I did all this a few years ago but I know I kept my notes.

i believe lower.I had to cut off one end of the lower mounts to accommodate the thicker Champion radiator and move them about an inch. turned out great

A simple trick to hep out a mechanical fan is to seal the shroud to the radiator. In my case an old rear window seal fit perfectly. I just pressed the the shroud into the channel.
