fan for 283
I currently have a flex fan on my 283 but its max rpm is 3500. Until I can get new gears that lower my rpm's I'm thinking of putting a solid fan on. My Sub runs cool but my rpm's doing 75mph are up near 4500. I dont want the flex fan to come apart so can someone recommend a solid type fan I can use? My engine is "stock" so was thinking an original style steel fan
Thanks |

Re: fan for 283
I'm using a reg steel fan. I don't have a shroud on yet and if I leave it running someplace it will overheat. A reg. steel fan will suck enough air to cool the rad. if the rad. is big enough. when your running 75 mph there is probably more air getten pushed in then the fan pulls anyway. I don't think the original cooling system was designed for cont. 4500 rpm in az.

Re: fan for 283
Thanks Frank. My rad is a standard 3 core that came with the truck for the 292 Powerglide combo. My core was replaced several years ago but truck still only gets to about 1/4 on the temp gauge. I will see about finding a steel fan over the next couple weeks.

I use a stock fan with a thermal clutch off of a 454 it runs fine during the summer here in AZ.
