Need measurements please...

I'm building a custom hood for the truck and have hit a snag...

I mounted the hood and found that the radiator I have is not going to work because the hood hits it before its closed.

To get this to work I'll need to find a radiator that's no more than 17" tall to the top of the cap...

What this does is makes me wonder if I find one that size will the cap be lower than the thermostat housing?

I'm running a mid 90's 350... this truck is a 67...

Can anyone who is running a 350 get me some sort of measurement from the bottom of the radiator supports to the the actual thermostat height please?

Does the fill have to be on top of the radiator like that? Could you fill the hole and mount a new fill off the side with an L tube that puts it far enough to the side that it misses the scooped down area of your hood but comes up to the same height as the original?

Looks like you are pretty handy, might be an easy fix ... Course I could be all wet on this being a viable fix

I need to lose close to 3 inches on the height somehow... This radiator was in the truck when I bought it and looks like something that was just tossed in there that worked... it is taller than a stock radiator would be and not as wide.. it leaves a gap at the side where its not as wide as the core support opening.

I really like what you are doing with the hood. Its outside of the box, but not too over the top.

I just measured mine. Sitting in the truck bolted down and running. From bottom of tank to fill cap is 19.5" tall.I would look at the bottom area and see if you can cut the bottom hold down out and lower it.

I used a roundy round race radiator in 70 Javelin and I'm pretty sure it was only 17" high. The fill on it is lower than the hose from the thermostat. I would just jack the front end up to fill at first, then I soldered a filler cap into a piece of tubing and put it in the hose at the high spot.

Can you fab up some "U" channel under the core support to drop the radiator down? shouldn't be too hard to make....

Best I could be is get maybe an inch out of lowering the radiator and it would be pretty much on the frame.

To much work went into just doing what I've done... to undo that to move them back would be way more work that I'm willing to do.

Gonna just finish it up and find something that works with it I guess.

Thanks, but I need to the height to the thermostat verses the height to the fill cap from the frame... Being that yours is an LS its probably not the same as a 350?

No it's not the water neck with thermostat is down at the water pump.

Why not get rid of the radiator cap altogether and get a remote fill resovoir from the junkyard out of a 90's Chevy truck?You will need a short nipple on the side of the radiator to go to the remote fill.You may still have to lower it some,but it looks like you'll have the room.
