GMC 910 what the heck?!

My old mans rig is one passed down from his uncle. It's a 1969 GMC 910 Sierra custom. I know it's a Canadian truck but does that mean all Canadian trucks where badged 910,920...? I have never seen another 910 but I saw a 920 longhorn on the threads.. Does anyone have any info on these? Are they rare? It came with quite some options. My uncle used to raise hell in this thing in the 80's

And factory burgundy interior.. Seat was recovered to be exact as before and there's a red dash pad now. We've got the original door panels just not on it yet.. They are also burgundy with rosary designs.

Re: GMC 910 what the heck?!

Yes, they were given their own model designates because the whole purpose of Canadian built US brand vehicles was to be set apart from US built to get around duties leveed on vehicles imported to nations under the British crown. This started off with completely different brand names at first, such as Maple Leaf, Fargo, Mercury Trucks (GM, Chrysler, Ford)

Re: GMC 910 what the heck?!

Just the GMCs if I recall. The Chevrolet pickups were still C10, C20, C30.

Now ask me about the Fargo pickups! Actually don't, they're just rebranded Dodges.

Here's my Dad's 910 in all of its "all gear no motor" glory:

Don't forget the rules!
Just for you guys south of the border!
When you drive a 910 you gotta end all your sentences with an 'eh'!!
And you must know how to convert from standard to metric in your head!!

Re: GMC 910 what the heck?!

What most Americans don't realize is that the country is actually spelled CND. It's just when Canadians spell it you hear

"C, eh, N, eh, D, eh".

And don't get me started on going into Radio Shack for batteries. You want AA, eh? Or AAA? Of course they call it "The Source" in Canada for some reason.

In Canada the Dodge trucks were sold by Chrysler/Dodge dealers and the Fargo trucks were sold by Chrysler/Plymouth dealer. You are correct the Fargo trucks were rebadged Dodge trucks.

Seeing you have a Canadian built ( Oshawa ) truck you can write to the GM Heritage Centre and get the info for your truck. Attached are pics of the info from my last truck.

My 2+2 is "Feature Car of the Month" at Canadian Poncho. It used to be a Laurentian. We couldn't afford a Beaumont, but it was a step up from the Acadian!

Good right up on the poncho!

We found a 69 Grand Parisiene a few years ago in rural central Alberta. A one owner 4 dr htp with a 427 and t400 and trailer towing pkg.
Black with black vinyl roof.
Everyone we told about it just wanted it for the motor so it still sits where we found it.
Some cars should not be parted out.
Grew up with a buddy who drove a 67 Laurention with 396 2bbl 3ott.
Guy I worked with in 1972 had his dad's 68 Laurention 4 door with a 327 4 gear and 4.10 rear cog.

Those where the days!!

Apoligies for the thread hack!

I know that car! It was a corporate car (Pontiac area rep) out of Edmonton or Calgary (or both, could be a big area). It was pretty highly optioned for Canada (normally poverty cars) if I recall. Never seen it myself, but I've heard about it.

Coulda been!!
They said it was bought at Kipp Scott in Red Deer. A demo or something along that line.
Got to thinkin' about the 427 4 gear poncho's.
There was a white 69 like that west of Red Deer that showed it's rear bumper to lots of cars when it came out to plaY!
