95 s10 blazer tranny replacement?

Looking for advice tips and pointers from anybody who has replaced a 4x4 automatic in one of these.

They sure seem to be problematic
Trannys. This one seems to have some forward movement but no reverse and the fluid sure smells burnt.

My kid has drug this one home without researching what it takes to do a trans. I heard they are tough to do.

I told him to start this thread but he said anytime he posts he never gets any replys

He used to be on the s10 board often but since his 93 got totaled he has been heart broken and not on here.

It is a 4L60E transmission, A computer controlled version of the TH700R4. Good transmission if rebuilt properly. depending on the miles it most likely is just worn out if it still moves a little in both directions.

Could also be a broken Sun Shell. They break sometimes on these trans. Can be replaced with a heavy duty shell called "the beast".

Re: 95 s10 blazer tranny replacement?

hey gradys thanks.

he has been checking around for trannys used, rebuilt and new just too see what is most cost effective.

there is a local shop that seemed too give him the best price and they have a good rep in the area.

i would like too see either a rebuild or a new one.with the reputaion these have for "going out" buying a used trans is just too risky but it is the cheapest at $120.

since i was thrown into this "i" only wanna do it once....kids

he only paid $200 for it and it only has 141 on the clock the 4.3 sounds great.
my z has 150 allready.

the trans will let it go forward but no reverse 4x4 seemed too work fine.

we really didnt check what gears are actually moving it forward just too prevent anymore damage incase he op's to rebuild it.

my kid was told that it was most likely the sun shell. all i know is the fluid is definitly burnt.

he was also told that it NEEDS to be a 1995 trans.

i'm not a automatic person give me a manual anyday but they seem too be the norm nowadays

he has gotta get his butt in gear he has been dd his 67 for a few weeks now witch is ok but its killing him in gas.

Burnt fluid means it most likely needs to be rebuilt. If he takes it out and rebuilds it himself it is a good learning experience and not to expensive. Just need a couple of specific tools. Keeping the original trans a rebuilding it keeps the correct calibrations for that vehicle. Any advice I can help with let me know.

Re: 95 s10 blazer tranny replacement?

thanks for the help gradys

he was talkin with the local shop yesterday too get it done and seal the deal.

and when he mentioned another shop he was talkin to the local place said to just take it there those guys have more expeiriance with the 4l60e.

i thought that was kinda strange.

I personally know guys at both tranny shops and both have helped me out in the past.

we are gonna replace some of the usual s10 things and send it off to get done.
i'm kinda glad saves me sometime and my back....and its his $$$$

as for me its back to the c&k
